The methods developed for these and similar studies, the experience gained in conducting them, and the data collected should be useful as guides in developing the protocols for pilot-studies. To get the maxiinum from the proposed studies, therefore, full use should be made of past experience; caution should be exercised in the selection of the communities; sufficient uniformity should be adopted to permit evaluation of the variables under study; and as rigorous a design as practicable should be developed.
